Attrition

AttritionATTRITION are pioneers in a darker electronica. Formed in 1980 in Coventry, England, influenced by a mix of punk ideology and experimental art aesthetics, they emerged as part of the early '80's UK Industrial scene alongside contemporaries Coil, Test Department, Legendary Pink Dots, In The Nursery, Portion Control et al. Founder Martin Bowes has steered the band through a 25 year career, fueled by a succession of critically acclaimed albums...and selling over 60,000 to date. Jill Tracy

Jill Tracy

Jill Tracy is both villainess and heroine of her own musical netherworld. The San Francisco-based artist has garnered multiple awards and a devoted following for her evocative cinematic music, sophisticated lyrics, old-world glamour, and curious passion for strange tales. Hailed by countless critics as a "femme fatale for the thinking man," Jill Tracy was described by NPR's All Things Considered as "utterly intriguing...luring you into a magical kingdom solely of her creation." LA Weekly calls her "very distinctive, sensual, and exciting." With her trademark dark classical-cum-parlour piano and voice of cut-velvet smoke, she conjures up shades of another era, but at the same time, the sound is shockingly new. Jill Tracy's music has recently been featured on CBS-TV and the film remake of "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde." Her new album "The Bittersweet Constrain" has been described as "devastatingly beautiful."

Unwoman

UnwomanSan Francisco-based Unwoman, also known as Erica Mulkey, creates darkly beautiful music. Her repertoire is a powerful collage of vocals, cello, and electronics. Matthew Heilman of Starvox.net writes, "Her style ranges from a kind of experimental trip hop to swirling darkwave atmosphere with just enough static and noise to give it that extra technical punch." She began playing the cello at nine years old, and piano at eleven. At thirteen Erica wrote her first songs for piano and voice. At sixteen she began studying electronic music at a local community college while continuing to play the cello and piano, compose, sing, and study music theory. Erica performed in Rasputina at Convergence 12 in New Orleans and in part of their June 2006 US tour. She has also performed with Falling You and Push Dance, among others. In 2007 she recorded sessions for Attrition, Jill Tracy, and Aoede for their upcoming releases. She also stars in a successful Siouxsie and the Banshees tribute band called Spellbound.

Charlie Drown

A deviation from the norm in both image and sound, Charlie Drown draws inspiration from sex and violence in equal measure to craft a unique sonic vision. Straddling brutality and frailty with ease and effortlessly encompassing the past, present and future of music. The music of Charlie Drown, while undoubtedly infectious, is difficult to pigeonhole, largely due to Charlie's broad spectrum of influences. Not content to be just another pretty face in rock star drag, Charlie writes, sings, sequences, plays many instruments and finds capable dynamic musicians for recording and production for all of the music, as well as hand picking those who perform it. Ambitious and aggressive in the studio, she has earned the respect of her peers in the community. A take-no-prisoners attitude and theatrical flair makes for some memorable live performances.

The Ghost Projects

The Ghosts Project is comprised of veterans from the Atlanta arts scene: composer Paul Mercer on violin/viola (The Changelings, Brass Knuckle Surfer, Dp3 and The Sweet Meat Love and Holy Cult), Davis Petterson on percussion (Dp3, Strezo, Khat), and Minka Wiltz on vocals (The Atlanta Opera, The Alliance Theater, and Capitol City Opera).   Several sightings of The Ghosts Project have been reported and praised in Atlanta, GA: The 5 Spot, Smith's Olde Bar, DragonCon ;  San Francisco, CA; Portland, OR; Fayetteville, AK; Seattle, WA; Raleigh, NC; and Tokyo, Japan. There is a palpable yet creative force that emerges from the collaboration of a passionately played 150 year old violin, a rhythmic percussion section and a hauntingly alluring soul--rock--R&B--opera singer. There are few in today's musical world that seek out this state of creative schizophrenia; however, The Ghosts Project steps boldly into the unknown with unbridled joy. The members of The Ghosts Project have been recognized in The Creative Loafing, The Village Voice, The Atlanta Journal and RE/search Publications.

The Red King

Red KingThe Red King introduces a completely new form of performance, a ritualized style that is proving influential throughout the underground. Certainly, these performances break the conventional idea of what a live 'band' can achieve. Combining aspects of bhutto, ritual, alchemy, medicine, and chemistry, all the senses become involved in a ritualistic transformation. Elements of earth, fire, water, and air take shape as The Red King summons the necessary spirits for a communal experience. Additional muses and familiars contribute dance, cinema, performance art, costuming, and musical interpretation. Among many past contributers are Ouroborus Press, A Minority of one, Stella Morgana, VIAL, LaughingCrowe, AJNA, Anima Nocturna, and Chymica Spiritus. In addition, those who attend one of these rare shows and are willing to subject themselves to the dangers involved in a Red King ritualized performance are rewarded in mind, body and spirit. Audience members are encouraged to participate as interaction is the highest level of understanding....

James D. Stark

Breaking into the Synthpop scene in 2004 with his now internationally recognized album "Fortress of Solitude", his music has reached a loyal following from fans on the internet, and is making a mark in Goth/Industrial clubs and dark alternative radio programs around the world. The popularity of the first track "Dying Beauty" inspired a Maxi-CD single with remixes by prominent artists in the scene including Assemblage 23 and Pigface drummer Martin Atkins, further elevating this rising Synthpop star. Adding a tranquil and soothing touch to the sounds of Gothic and Darkwave, Stark has made a niche for himself developing his own genre of vibrant and emotional "Romantic Synthpop". The sound is reminiscent of European Electro and Synthpop artists such as Depeche Mode and De/Vision, but offers a distinct and genuine quality of it's own.

Amoree Lovell

Hailing from the NW, Amoree Lovell's "East of Ragtime West of Goth" sound manages to be both upbeat and dark at the same time. Her recent CD titled, "Six Sadistic Songs for Children" has pushed the boundaries of music in to a realm of dark possibilities. "Lovell's mordant cabaret-style repertoire triangulates Nick Cave, Kurt Weill, some more blackhearted '80s New Wave and Danny Elfman, her personal hero. ("My influence? It's him. I rip off Danny Elfman every chance I get.") She cuts a unique figure on Portland's club scene, taking stages usually decked with rock bands, alone at the keys, wreathed in eternal cigarette smoke. She may be the only musician in a niche-happy town equally at home at punk dive Billy Ray's, indie-rock haven Blackbird, and Mock Crest Tavern, North Portland's blues stronghold.." - Willamette Week, 2002

Adrian H and the Wounds

Hailing from the Texas music scene of Dallas and Austin, Adrian H moved to the northwest and birthed songs that would make your mother cry. Adrian H has a sound that is sinfully soulful and reminiscent of a night in a velvety dark room full of hallucinations, secrets and song. His voice is dark and icy and evokes impassioned stories of love, faith and loss. His post-goth, dark-glam style stirs up comparisons to Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave and Tom Waits. His lyrics are a reflection of his unorthodox religious upbringing. Adrian H is skilled with the language of violence and sharp wit. He cuts to the core and makes no apologies like a good Charles Bukowski story. If you like your music with a twist of raw emotion, then don’t miss Adrian H.
